Final 2024 Michigan football preseason position analysis: Edge Rushers

The starters are set but the rotation is a bit dicey. #GoBlue

Primer

Like with the defensive tackles, there’s no drama when it comes to the two starters in Josaiah Stewart and Derrick Moore, and the first rotational player in TJ Guy is locked in. But there are questions beyond those three, and just how deep the bench might be. Could we see some freshmen? Could some older players who haven’t seen the field make their way into the rotation? We’ll know more soon enough.

Projected starters: Josaiah Stewart, Derrick Moore
Rotation: TJ Guy, Cameron Brandt, Breeon Ishmail, Dominic Nichols, Kechaun Bennett

Position outlook

Stewart and Moore are entrenched as they were key parts of last year’s run and even made the final play in the Rose Bowl, but does Michigan have that type of depth this year? It’s uncertain.

Guy has been getting an insane amount of hype this offseason and Cameron Brandt appears to be the next man up after him. But beyond them, who will figure into the rotation? Freshman Dominic Nichols has been mentioned a few times and though Bennett, entering his senior year, has not received any mentions, it’s now or never for him at this juncture. It’s pretty unclear beyond those mentioned who could play if necessary. Freshman Lugard Edokpayi is intriguing but he’s a likely redshirt candidate.
