DeVonta Smith calls Britain Covey the light of Eagles WR room

Britain Covey (5’8) is an inch shorter than Jake Elliott, making the third-year wide receiver the smallest player on the Eagles roster. What Covey lacks in size, he more than makes up for in leadership and optimism.

During his Thursday press conference, DeVonta Smith praised Covey, calling him “the light” of the Eagles wide receiver room.

A highly productive player at Utah, Covey was the Eagles’ primary punt returner in 2022 after being elevated to the active 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Early on, Covey had two fumbles and averaged 6.1 yards per punt return in the Eagles’ first five games.

Over his last 15 games of that season (including the playoffs), Covey increased his productivity as he got more comfortable, averaging 12.3 yards per return and no fumbles.

the former Utah wide receiver averaged the league’s second-most yards per punt return (14.4) in 2023.

In 17 games in 2022 with the Eagles, Covey did not record a catch and only had four catches for 42 yards and no touchdowns last season, but that could change in 2024 under new OC Kellen Moore.
