UCLA Bruins Men’s soccer wins season opener

Got the win on the pitch.

The UCLA Bruins men’s soccer team picked up a 2-0 win on Thursday night over LMU. The Bruins got a pair of goals from graduate transfer Edrey Caceres in the match.

It was a nice night for the Bruins as a trio of players played their first college match. Sveinn Hauksson, Shakir Nixon, and Tamir Ratoviz have now played in a college soccer match. Five others got their first career match with the Bruins under their belt.

Goaltender Sam Joseph recorded a clean sheet. It was the third of his career. The Bruins defense helped him out big time, as they allowed just two shows on the net in the final 30 minutes. UCLA finished with 14 shots, while the Lions had 7.

The next match for the Bruins will come on Sunday. The Bruins are home for their next four. They will host James Madison on August 25th. After that, they have home matches against Portland on August 30th, Cal State Fullerton on September 5th and Denver comes to town on September 9th.

The Big Ten slate then starts on September 13th, as the Bruins head to Northwestern and Wisconsin.
