Former Washington Huskies star Rome Odunze has his sights set on becoming the best wide receiver in the history of the Chicago Bears.
“In the career?!” Odunze said after learning that Johnny Morris is the team’s all-time leading receiver with 5,059 yards in his career. “I hope I’ll go break that record and hopefully add a few thousand to that… 5,000 is the goal, then.”
Fanduel TV’s Kay Adams seems to believe that the No. 9 overall pick in April’s NFL draft can reach those heights.
“With your skillset and what you can do with the situation you’re walking into, I think I’m talking to the best wide receiver Chicago will ever have,” she told Odunze on Up & Adams.
The always humble Odunze took the comments in stride and acknowledged the lofty goals he’s set for himself in Chicago while working with quarterback Caleb Williams.
“That gives me big goals to strive for, and that’s something that’s definitely on my list,” he said. “It’s going to take some time and a lot of hard work and dedication, but that sounds good, and if that’s where I’m at when it’s all said and done, I’ll be happy with that career.”
If he’s able to prove that he’s on pace for those numbers during the first few years of his rookie contract, Odunze could put himself among the NFL’s highest-paid receivers like Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson and Dallas’ Ceedee Lamb.
Could rookie @RomeOdunze end up being the GREATEST WR in @ChicagoBears history?! 👀@heykayadams has high hopes 💪 pic.twitter.com/nTyhS7UMdD
