Dolphins claim former Packers WR Grant DuBose off waivers

Unsurprisingly, the Dolphins decided to add a receiver to their roster Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins claimed former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Grant DuBose off waivers Wednesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

DuBose, 23, was a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft — three selections before Mr. Irrelevant was taken — and spent his rookie year on Green Bay’s practice squad. In the Packers’ preseason opener this season, DuBose was the leading receiver with five receptions for 66 yards. However, he didn’t catch any passes in the team’s next two games.

It’s not surprising that the Dolphins looked to upgrade the receiver position. On Tuesday, the team opted to have just four players at the position in its initial 53-man roster. While Miami has a dynamic duo in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, only return specialist Braxton Berrios and sixth-round rookie Malik Washington were behind them on the depth chart.

The Dolphins also have Odell Beckham Jr. and River Cracraft, but neither of those veterans will be available until at least Week 5 as they’re on the PUP list and IR, respectively, to begin the year.

Miami is also expected to retain former fourth-round pick Erik Ezukanma on the practice squad.
