Trojans Wire discusses projected USC defensive leaders in 2024

Which players will lead the USC defense in various statistical categories? We talked about it.

The USC football team should have a much-improved defense this season. How much better? That’s the real question. There’s really nowhere to go but up after the misery of 2023 and the consistent parade of awful showings from the Trojans under Alex Grinch. The real key is if improvements will be substantial and not merely modest. If USC can field a top-40 or top-30 defense in 2024, the Trojans should contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff. There is a lot to talk about regarding the 2024 USC defense.

On a recent episode of our USC show at The Voice of College Football, we made various predictions for the statistical leaders of this defense. We looked at tackles, sacks, interceptions, pass deflections, pass breakups, and more. We tried to get a sense of how the pieces will fit for this defense and how USC can indeed make the big forward strides it needs to make to lift the program back to its expected standard. If USC can reestablish itself as a top program which is in the mix for championships and not Holiday Bowls, the level of recruiting and the quality of transfer portal additions next offseason should go way up, and USC will be on its way back to the top echelon of college football.
