Saints begin forming defensive backs room, release Roderic Teamer

The New Orleans Saints have begun shaping their defensive backs room, releasing veteran safety Roderic Teamer, a potential practice squad candidate:

The New Orleans Saints have begun their roster shuffle on cut-down day, with the deadline fast approaching, roster cuts will likely be coming in bulk at some point today. One of the first releases was former Las Vegas Raiders safety Roderic Teamer, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

The defensive back room was going to be extremely tough to crack in the first place, with Tyrann Mathieu, Jordan Howden, Johnathan Abram, and J.T. Gray being all locks or close to being so. On top of that, the cornerbacks room may warrant carrying an extra player with Rico Payton showing up so well in preseason.

Unfortunately, Roderic Teamer ended up being one of the odd-men out and was released to find a new team. Ultimately he may end up coming back as a practice squad player as well, as he had a quality preseason and was a good enough player to warrant taking another look long term as a depth piece in the secondary.
