Patriots QB Drake Maye lost a shoe and still made this incredible play

No shoe, no problem for Drake Maye

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye had a tremendous start to Sunday’s preseason finale against the Washington Commanders.

He threw a touchdown pass early in the game, and he even completed a pass after losing his shoe.

The rookie still got the ball out quickly while wearing one shoe and turned what could have been a poor play into a positive one. He avoided the pressure from the Commanders defense and hit running back JaMycal Hasty for a short completion across the middle.

It was an incredible off-script play that showed off some of Maye’s playmaking abilities. When things break down, he’s the kind of quarterback that can still make plays happen.

Maye is making a strong case for the starting quarterback job in New England.

The team seemingly has plans to start veteran Jacoby Brissett right out of the gates, but Maye has shown enough potential early on to make it a difficult decision for the Patriots’ coaching staff.
