Browns get another draft pick out of a practice squad player in trade with Bears

The preseason standout gets an opportunity in the Windy City

Defensive tackle Chris Williams was a breakout candidate for the Cleveland Browns this preseason, but his pathway to making the 53-man roster was non-existent due to the wealth of depth along the defensive line. The Browns, however, have given him an opportunity on a 53-man roster elsewhere, sending him to the Chicago Bears.

They send Williams and a seventh round pick to the Bears, the Browns get a sixth round pick in return.

This preseason, Williams has racked up four pressures and two sacks, lining up inside and outside along their defensive line. The undrafted rookie from Wagner now gets his shot on an active roster.

This is the second trade the Browns have made this week, first sending kicker Cade York to the Washington Commanders for a conditional seventh round pick. It will not likely be the last as there are some other fringe roster players who other teams around the NFL might covet, and as the Browns are in search of depth at offensive tackle themselves.
