Kirk Ferentz provides positive update on Iowa football WR group

Kirk Ferentz has shed some positive light onto the Hawkeyes wide receivers.

One position group that has hampered the Iowa Hawkeyes on offense over the last few seasons has been the wide receiver group.

Iowa has struggled to create big plays with receivers and has not threatened teams vertically in the passing game which has made life that much harder.

Heading into the 2024 college football season, Iowa has had some confidence that the group they have this year could turn things around. Head coach Kirk Ferentz uttered that same sentiment in his press conference sharing some positive news about the group.

Ferentz stated that Northwestern transfer Jacob Gill is helping a ton. Ferentz said he has been, “a really good influence on a really young group.”

Ferentz also thinks that the wide receiver group could become a productive offensive group for Iowa.

As things stand, Iowa has listed three starting wide receivers on offense. Jarriett Buie, a redshirt freshman, is listed as the starting X, redshirt sophomore Kaleb Brown mans the starting Z spot, and redshirt junior Seth Anderson is the starting slot receiver.

Kaleb Brown will be sidelined in Week 1 due to a one-game suspension stemming from his OWI.

Behind that group is a young squad consisting of two redshirt freshmen, Dayton Howard and Terrell Washington, who could also see some time at running back.

Gill, a junior from Raleigh, North Carolina, had 16 career receptions 195 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with Northwestern.
