AP predicts Notre Dame-Tennessee in College Football Playoff

Would you like to see the Volunteers visit the Irish?

For a brief period recently, it seemed fewer experts were predicting Notre Dame to make the College Football Playoff. Fortunately, we seem to be back on the right track. More prognosticators in recent days have the Irish as one of the 12 teams to play for a national championship.

Ralph D. Russo of the Associated Press has taken his crack at predicting the playoff, and he has the Irish hosting a first-round game as the eighth seed. Their opponent in this scenario would be Tennessee.

This is not a matchup most people have on their bingo cards, but any possibility has to be considered. The Irish also are overdue for a meeting with the Volunteers as they haven’t had one since 2005.

The programs have split the eight games they’ve faced other in. At the very least, whoever wins this game would have bragging rights at least until the next time they meet, which might not be for some time. Needless to say, a lot would be at stake here.
