Broncos officially name Bo Nix starting QB, will face the Seahawks in Week 1

The Seattle Seahawks have known for months who their Week 1 opponent will be, and now they know who will quarterback for them. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that the Denver Broncos have officially named Bo Nix as the starting quarterback.

It is the first time since John Elway in 1983 that a rookie quarterback has started Week 1 for the Broncos. The No. 12 pick from the 2024 NFL draft out of Oregon gets to make his debut in the Emerald City.

September 8th will mark Nix’ first time back to Seattle to play a football game since October 14th of last year, when Oregon played Washington. In a thrilling clash of former Pac-12 titans, the Ducks and Huskies were both undefeated going into the game.

Nix played well, completing 33-of-44 passes for 337 yards and two touchdowns, but it was not enough. The Ducks held a 33-29 lead with less than two minutes to play, but their defense could not slow down Michael Penix and Ryan Grubb’s offense. Nix did march Oregon down the field to attempt a game-tying field goal, which went wide right for a 36-33 defeat.

Now Nix is a Bronco, picked by head coach Sean Payton to help get his career in Denver back on track after a disastrous start last season. There are certainly easier debut spots for rookies than taking a trip to Lumen Field to face the 12th Man, who I’m sure will be plenty happy to cheer loudly against Nix one more time.
