Texans WR Robert Woods listed as top trade candidate entering final week of training camp

According to CBS Sports, Robert Woods could be on the move before Week 1 rolls around for the Houston Texans.

Who is the biggest top chip for the Houston Texans entering the final week of training camp?

According to CBS Sports, look no further than Robert Woods.

Woods, who enters the final year of his two-year, $17.5 million deal, has fallen down the depth chart with the emergence of Tank Dell and the arrival of All-Pro target Stefon Diggs. Even third-year receiver John Metchie III seems more like a long-term option than the former Super Bowl champion.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin believes that while Woods might not be an ideal option for C.J. Stroud’s cast of weapons, he still offers upside for receiver-needy rosters.

“The 32-year-old Woods has looked like his polished self in the preseason,” Benjamin wrote. “The question is, where does he fit as potentially the No. 5 target for C.J. Stroud, with guys like Noah Brown and John Metchie III also vying for reserve snaps?”

Trading Woods would be a win-win for the wide receiver and the Texans. Houston would free up at least $5 million in cap space while garnering back a late-round pick. Woods would be viewed as a potential starter for another franchise, thus upping his rep count.

Benjamin listed the Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles as potential fits for Woods. The Texans would love for the veteran to be a reason they clinch a second division title, but Woods wants to see the field and offers little on special teams.

Even if Woods were to suit up elsewhere this fall, the Texans have enough targets to ensure that Stroud only continues his ascension to superstardom.
