Leigh Diffey named new NASCAR on NBC play-by-play announcer in 2024

Leigh Diffey has officially been named the new NASCAR on NBC play-by-play announcer for the Cup Series in 2024.

NASCAR on NBC has officially named a new Cup Series play-by-play announcer. On Tuesday morning, NBC Sports announced that [autotag]Leigh Diffey[/autotag] will serve as the lead Cup Series play-by-play announcer starting at Daytona International Speedway this weekend. Rick Allen previously held this role and will continue as the NASCAR Xfinity Series commentator.

Diffey served as NBC Sports’ lead track and field play-by-play announcer at the Paris Olympics and the lead IndyCar commentator. In his place, Kevin Lee will take over as the IndyCar play-by-play announcer. Diffey will be the new voice of NASCAR on NBC for the rest of the 2024 Cup Series season, including the championship race at Phoenix Raceway in November.

This is big change for NBC Sports as Diffey is one of racing’s top announcers. With IndyCar leaving NBC at the end of the 2024 season, it allows the network to move him to NASCAR, which has more eyes watching each week. Allen will still continue with NBC, but Diffey’s presence will be fabulous in the Cup Series booth for the rest of 2024.
