Kirby Smart provides injury updates as season opener nears

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart talks about Georgia’s injury situation ahead of the Aug. 31 season opener

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart provided a few injury updates to the media on Aug. 20. Georgia is still working on itself as the Bulldogs get closer to their season opener against the Clemson Tigers on Aug. 31.

The Bulldogs just finished their second scrimmage of fall camp. Georgia’s leading returning rusher, Roderick Robinson, was unable to participate.

“Roderick’s dealing with a little bit of a turf toe. Don’t know what he’s going to be available,” said Smart. Robinson rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in 2023.

Smart provided a positive update on linebacker Smael Mondon, who missed spring practice with a foot injury. Mondon has been ramping up his workload. “Smael (Mondon) has practiced every practice this camp,” said Smart.

Smart was vaguer on South Carolina transfer Xzavier McLeod. “We’re trying to get (Xzavier McLeod) back. Don’t know when he’ll be back,” said Smart. McLeod missed Georgia’s scrimmage with an abdominal sprain.
