Kentucky basketball and coach Mark Pope have landed their first 2025 recruit, and it’s the top center in the class, Malachi Moreno.
Pope doesn’t have time to be complacent though, as there are more recruits set to make decisions soon. One of those is guard Jasper Johnson, who is set to announce his decision very soon.

Johnson was originally set to make the choice sooner, but pushed it back a few times. However, his farther told Kentucky Sports Radio that he is ready.
We will make a decision next week. The family wants to make the best decision for Jasper.
His father is former Kentucky football player Dennis Johnson. That may not give the Wildcats an edge though. He’s reportedly deciding between North Carolina, Arkansas, and Kentucky, but the rumors have swirled about who the favorite might be.
Moreno has also been attempting to recruit Johnson to Lexington, and whether or not that’s a factor is unknown as well.
Johnson would be a massive win for Pope and Kentucky. That would give them two elite recruits with more potentially in the wings. Fans will certainly paying close attention next week.
