Panthers WR Xavier Legette really wants to play in preseason

Panthers rookie WR Xavier Legette is itching to get some preseason action.

We’re not the only ones itching to see Carolina Panthers rookie wideout Xavier Legette get his first piece of real action in the NFL.

For the second consecutive week, the 2024 first-round pick was one of a bevy of Panthers who were ruled out ahead of preseason play. Carolina Blitz editor-in-chief Vashti Hurt caught up with Legette following the team’s 15-12 loss to the New York Jets, and asked him about the inactivity.

Legette has dealt with a few injuries this offseason, beginning with a hamstring strain that kept him out of a portion of organized team activities as well as the entirety of mandatory minicamp. He’d then sustain a foot injury earlier this month—one that, fortunately, came back clean through X-ray and MRI tests.

Head coach Dave Canales told reporters about Legette’s progress last Saturday.

“Yeah, he’s doin’ great,” Canales said. “Again, it’s a really a day-to-day thing. And we’re just trying to get the discomfort out of the foot completely, clear it up before we start getting him into really fast change-of-direction things. So the in-line stuff is great. And we’ll be smart about that and bring him along.”

Legette has since returned to practice, but is still waiting on that first game.
