Haliey Welch hits back at haters with perfectly reasonable purpose for her Mets first pitch

She was promoting a charity. Mission accomplished?

There was quite a bit of consternation at Citi Field on Thursday and that was before the Mets even took the field in their 7-6 loss to Oakland.

Haliey Welch was invited to throw out the first pitch in Queens, causing a media storm — with some outlets not even allowing their reporters to explain in copy why Welch is noteworthy.

The 22-year-old went viral on TikTok after an interview earlier this year, and given this is a family website, can’t say more. Odds are if you’re reading this, you already know.

Anyways, the Mets’ invitation of Welch seemed to overshadow the entire reason she was on the mound in the first place — which, as it turns out, was for a pretty good cause.

“The main reason I went to the game was to spread awareness and donate to America’s vet dogs which pairs dogs with war veterans for a forever home,” Welch posted Friday on X/Twitter.

Well, there you have it.
