As Bruce Feldman of The Athletic first reported, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders is hiring former Michigan Wolverines linebackers coach George Helow to his staff under the title of senior defensive coach.
Helow is expected to “work closely” with Robert Livingston, who’s entering his first season as Colorado’s defensive coordinator. Last year, Helow was a special assistant to Nick Saban during his final season leading the Alabama Crimson Tide.
From 2021-22, the Jacksonville, Florida native worked under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, where he coached incoming Colorado transfer linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green.
Before spending the 2020 season as Maryland’s special teams coordinator/linebackers coach, Helow was an assistant defensive coach at Colorado State from 2016-19.
The 37-year-old Helow played collegiately at Ole Miss from 2006-10, leading the Rebels in special teams tackles during his final season.
