CBS Sports predicts disappointing bowl matchup for LSU

CBS Sports doesn’t see the Tigers pushing for a playoff spot this fall.

After a surprisingly successful Year 1 under coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] in which the team won the SEC West and had a chance at a New Year’s Six bid late in the year, LSU entered 2023 ranked as a top-five team with College Football Playoff aspirations.

Things didn’t work out that way last fall, but with the playoff expanding to 12 teams this season, the Tigers look to be in that mix once again despite losing a lot of production from last year’s roster.

LSU enters the season ranked in the preseason top-15, but CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm projects what would be a disappointing postseason destination for the Tigers. He has them facing off against Nebraska in the Music City Bowl, certainly several tiers below the kind of bowl matchup LSU is hoping for.

It’s hard to know where this team stands in an expanded SEC, and with so many questions, it could be another disappointing year. But there’s a considerable amount of optimism, and landing in a mid-tier bowl would be a step below what Tigers fans expect this fall.
