The Denver Broncos hosted the “Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams” at training camp on Wednesday.
After practice, Adams interviewed Broncos head coach Sean Payton and several players. The most notable topic during the Payton interview, of course, was the quarterback competition. Adams asked Payton directly why he doesn’t name Bo Nix the starting quarterback right now.
“Listen, it’s a great question,” Payton said. “I think a number of these people here are waiting. When you draft someone in the first round, the fanbase, media, everyone is A) wanting to know how he’s doing. And then, I would say he’s doing really well. And then the next question is, ‘Well, when are you going to –,” and there’s a process. And I think that it will be sooner than later relative to how these guys finish out this next preseason game.”
Payton later indicated that he’s not ready to name starters at other position battles and he hinted that’s part of the reason why he hasn’t named a starting quarterback yet. You can watch his full interview with Adams below:
Adams also spoke with Denver cornerback Pat Surtain and wide receiver Courtland Sutton. You can watch that interview below:
The Broncos have two more training camp practices remaining, today (Thursday) and then tomorrow’s joint practice with the Green Bay Packers. After that scrimmage with Green Bay, Denver will then host the Packers in Week 2 of NFL preseason on Sunday.
