Washington alums dominate Bengals/Buccaneers preseason game

There were Huskies everywhere as the Buccaneers took on the Bengals in the preseason.

There were so many Washington Huskies on the field in Saturday’s matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers that they couldn’t all fit in the postgame photo. To be exact, there were nine former Huskies between the two teams.

Although the majority of those Huskies, like defensive tackle Vita Vea and tight ends Cade Otton and Drew Sample didn’t play, others still made a major impact.

Wide receiver Jalen McMillan pulled in 2 catches for 23 yards in his NFL debut, while tight end Devin Culp also pulled in 1 catch for 6 yards in his first game. Even though starting quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t play for Tampa Bay, McMillan is continuing to make a case to be his No. 3 receiver behind veterans Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

On the other side of the field, it wasn’t the best day for Jake Browning, who went 10 for 18 for 52 yards and an interception, but seems to have his spot as Joe Burrow’s backup solidified. Browning also got to spend some time with former UW offensive lineman Jaxson Kirkland, who had a strong day at right guard and is making a case to be included on the 53-man roster.

As Jedd Fisch continues to sell recruits on the NFL, pictures like the one below make his pitch a lot easier.
