Titans QB Will Levis addresses hit he took in preseason win over 49ers

Levis understands he can’t take those types of hits.

Things couldn’t have gone any better for the Tennessee Titans in their preseason debut. The first-team offense played two series, and quarterback Will Levis led Tennessee on two touchdowns, giving the Titans a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

Tennessee would eventually hold on for a 17-13 victory.

Levis completed four of five passes for 35 yards and also had a rushing touchdown in the win. But the biggest talking point after the game was the hit Levis took on Tennessee’s first drive.

Before Levis’ touchdown on Tennessee’s first drive, he took a nasty hit from 49ers linebacker Dee Winters near the goal line.

Here’s the play:

Levis should’ve given himself up once he saw he was not getting into the end zone. He may be 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds but hits like that can take you out for weeks or possibly longer. Had Levis slid, Tennessee would have lost, at most, two yards on the play.

After the game, Levis acknowledged he needed to get down.

“I got some people telling me: It’s preseason, get down,” Levis said via Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “I was trying to make something happen, but I have to be smarter.”
