Guardian Caps — which are used as additional head protection over helmets — are all the rage during NFL training camps as players are required to use them there.
But now, there’s the option to wear them during games. And with the Pittsburgh Steelers playing the Houston Texans in a preseason game on Friday night, Steelers right guard James Daniels might have become the first player to ever wear one in a contest.
What did he have to say about it? Per the Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko, as you can see below: “My head doesn’t hurt, so that’s good … Hopefully more and more people start wearing them.”
Steelers RG James Daniels laughed when I told him he seems to be the first NFL player to wear a Guardian Cap in-game. “My head doesn’t hurt, so that’s good…Hopefully more and more people start wearing them.” He said one Texan asked how it felt.
