Washington’s fifth-year senior quarterback Will Rogers has found himself on yet another award watchlist. After being named to the Maxwell Award watch list, which Washington legend Michael Penix Jr. took home in 2023, the Mississippi State transfer portal product also found his name on the watchlist for the Davey O’Brien Award.
Given annually to the best quarterback in college football, the Davey O’Brien Award has often found itself also being given to the recipient of the Heisman Trophy.
Over the last five years, two of its winners have come from LSU, Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow, and two have come from Alabama, Mac Jones and Bryce Young. Of that group, Jones is the only one who didn’t take home the Heisman too.
If Rogers can find a way to take home the award at the end of the 2024 season, he would be the first Husky quarterback to ever win it, and would also be the first Big Ten signal caller to do so since Ohio State’s Troy Smith in 2006.
