[autotag]Leigh Diffey[/autotag] has been rumored to join NASCAR on NBC’s TV booth in 2024 for a while, and it appears that a better timeline has been established. According to IndyStar’s Nathan Brown, NBC Sports told its staff that Diffey will no longer call races for the NTT IndyCar Series as he prepares to move to the NASCAR Cup Series booth.
Brown states that Diffey is scheduled to make his first play-by-play appearance next to Steve Letarte and Jeff Burton at Daytona International Speedway on August 24. Rick Allen, who has been the voice of NASCAR on NBC since 2015, will focus on the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the rest of the season between NBC and The CW.
This will be an exciting new era for NBC Sports as NASCAR’s new TV deal will commence at the start of the 2025 season. The move suggests that Diffey will be the new voice for NASCAR on NBC moving forward while Allen looks elsewhere. Diffey is one of the best play-by-play announcers in sports and should be behind the microphone in about two weeks.
