Glenn Schumann comments on LB Jalon Walker’s role in 2024

Defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann discusses the role of Jalon Walker, who has the most returning sacks of any Georgia player

After being the team leader in sacks a season ago, some in the UGA fanbase were surprised to hear that Jalon Walker was primarily working at inside linebacker in the spring. Co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann recently explained that the Bulldogs coaching staff plans to do with Jalon Walker.

Expand his role because he’s a talented player, and the best way to expand his role is to continue to develop him as a hybrid player… maximizing his opportunities to do what he does best.

While the staff may see Walker as best fit for the inside, allowing him to play both positions will provide much needed depth on the edge as Georgia looks for pass rushing prowess to team with Mykel Williams this season. Walker can provide this aid while also factoring into the inside linebacker alternation along with Smael Mondon, C.J. Allen, and Raylen Wilson.

Walker recorded 20 tackles, five sacks, and a forced fumble as a sophomore a season ago, with a season-best performance in the SEC title game against Alabama where he recorded two tackles and two sacks on limited snaps.
