Stetson Bennett projected to make Los Angeles Rams’ 53-man roster

Former Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback Stetson Bennett is projected to make the Los Angeles Rams’ final roster.

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett has been predicted to make the Los Angeles Rams’ 53-man roster. Bennett, who missed most of his rookie season after being place on the reserve/non-football injury list, figures to see a lot of snaps in the Rams’ first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

“Bennett is clearly situated behind Jimmy Garoppolo as the No. 3 quarterback, but he’ll be the backup for the first two weeks while Garoppolo serves his two-game suspension,” said Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire. “Therefore, Garoppolo won’t count toward the 53-man roster initially.”

It goes without saying that Matthew Stafford is the Rams’ top quarterback. Beyond Stafford is NFL veteran Jimmy Garoppolo. Bennett is expected to make the Rams’ initial roster, but will he stick around after Los Angeles’ first two games of the season?

Bennett could find a role on the Rams as a practice squad player following Week 2. Rams head coach Sean McVay likes the mobility that Bennett brings to the Rams’ quarterback room.

“(He) had some really good reps, some things where we can be a little bit cleaner, but what you do see from Stetson is the athleticism. If we lose contain up front, he can break it and make plays with his legs,” said Sean McVay in a recent interview with the media. “And I think that’s good for whether it’s our first group or our second group to understand.  Because there’s going to be some guys like that on the schedule that we can’t get lulled to sleep and just thinking they’re always going to be in that spot if we lose the integrity of our (pass) rush lanes.”
