After working with Michael Penix Jr. for two seasons, it would be understandable if wide receiver Denzel Boston, who is expected to become one of the top options in Jedd Fisch’s passing attack at Washington this fall, needed some time to adjust to a new passer.
However, throughout the spring and summer, he has formed a strong connection with quarterback Will Rogers.
“Will running the show has been great,” Boston said on the Big Ten Network. “He takes the initiative of the quarterback that you love to see. He’s directing everyone on where to go and making sure everyone is on the same page, so working with him has been great. When you’re learning a new system, everything is a little hard to do at first but once you get ahold of it and have a quarterback by your side that’s making sure you do the right things and staying on track, it gets a lot easier.”

While Boston hasn’t made any highlight reel grabs just yet through Washington’s first three fall practices, he and Rogers displayed great chemistry throughout the spring which has carried over to the fall session. Rogers credited some of that chemistry to his ability as a communicator, but knows the team as a whole still has room to improve on that front since there are so many new arrivals on the roster.
“We’re three practices in and we’re still installing offensively,” Rogers said after Saturday’s practice. “From a communication standpoint we’re still learning the scheme, we have to communicate the scheme and I have to talk to the receivers and tell them what I’m seeing. We have to make sure we’re on the same page, communicate, and execute the play.”
As he did plenty of times in the spring, Rogers and Boston showed that they were able to be on the same page and execute Fisch’s scheme effectively.
