With the kickoff to the 2024 college football season just under a month away, a pair of UNC football players are earning some preseason recognition.
The Atlantic Coast Conference media has voted and released its All-ACC preseason teams for the upcoming season on Thursday night. For North Carolina, they had two players make the teams with running back Omarion Hampton and offensive lineman Willie Lampkin earning honors.
Hampton is returning for a third season, fresh off a big year in 2023, earning him All-ACC honors for the season. He finished last season with 1,504 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
For Lampkin, he’s going to be a key piece on North Carolina’s offensive line which still has a lot of question marks on it. He’s the only returning starting offensive lineman from last year’s team and started in every game, playing a total of 816 snaps.
Hampton also finished runner-up to Miami quarterback Cam Ward for the ACC Player of the Year award in the preseason poll. Ward received 71 first-place votes while Hampton had just 38.
