Oregon Ducks announce ‘That Team Out West,’ a Hard Knocks-style documentary series

The Oregon Ducks announced on Thursday that they will be releasing a training camp documentary series in 2024 titled ‘That Team Out West.’

One of the most well-known pieces of intellectual property in the sports entertainment world over the past couple of decades has undoubtedly become HBO’s Hard Knocks. This hit documentary series follows an NFL team through training camp ahead of each season and gives an in-depth look at life in the NFL.

The Oregon Ducks are now taking that idea for themselves.

On Thursday afternoon, the team announced that they will be debuting a new documentary series this August titled ‘That Team Out West.’ The four-part series will follow Oregon through training camp as they get ready to embark on the Big Ten Conference for the first time and prepare for what many think could be a national championship campaign.

Ahead of the release, we sat down with Scott Anderson, the Senior Associate Director of Video at Oregon, in an exclusive interview on the Bleav in Oregon Podcast to talk about the project.

“It’s unprecedented access to Oregon Football,” said Anderson. “We’re filming things that nobody in college football has filmed before.”

More than just showing clips of training camp practices and players interacting around the facilities, ‘That Team Out West’ will dive into the personal stories of many Oregon players, at times going home with them and getting a look into their lives outside of football.

The project followed quarterback Dillon Gabriel and his offensive teammates to the annual Dime Time Retreat this summer and even got behind closed doors at Dan Lanning’s annual coaches’ retreat in Sisters, Oregon this summer. It gives us a never-before-seen look at some of the biggest names in Eugene when they’re away from the field.

“You’re really going to see inside the program like you never have before,” Anderson said.
