The North Carolina Tar Heels have opened up training camp in preparation for the upcoming college football season which begins later on in August.
For UNC, they will open up the campaign at Minnesota, ending a home-and-home series between the two teams from 2023-24. But before that, the predictions for the upcoming season have been released and the Atlantic Coast Conference media believes the Tar Heels are a middle-of-the-pack team.
Fresh off the ACC kickoff last week, the conference released the preseason media poll for the season based on votes from 170 media members. The Tar Heels checked in at No. 8 in the poll behind newcomer SMU who was No. 7.
The Florida State Seminoles led the way with 2708 total points and 81 first-place votes followed by Clemson, Miami, NC State and Louisville.
Take a look at the full poll below:
1. Florida State (81) – 2708
2. Clemson (55) – 2657
3. Miami (17) – 2344
4. NC State (8) – 2318
5. Louisville – 1984
6. Virginia Tech (5) – 1968
7. SMU – 1798
8. North Carolina – 1712
9. Georgia Tech (1) – 1539
10. Cal (2) – 1095
11. Duke – 1056
12. Syracuse – 1035
13. Pitt – 1016
14. Boston College (1) – 890
15. Wake Forest – 784
16. Virginia – 629
17. Stanford – 477
The spot in the poll seems pretty fair for a North Carolina program that has a lot of questions going into this season. They also have to replace the production lost by quarterback Drake Maye, wide receiver Tez Walker and linebacker Cedric Gray who are all in the NFL.
Let’s hope UNC can find a way to get into that top four and potentially make some surprising noise this season.
