Florida’s incumbent starting QB named to Maxwell Award Watch List

The Maxwell Football Club announced its watch list and included Florida’s Graham Mertz among the 80 honorees.

The Maxwell Football Club announced its watch list on Monday for the 88th Maxwell Award presented annually to the outstanding player in college football. This year, Florida Gators incumbent starting quarterback [autotag]Graham Mertz[/autotag] was among the 80 student-athletes — and 15 from the Southeastern Conference — named to the list.

The Maxwell Award is presented to the best player in college football and has been given to the College Player of the Year since 1937. It is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell — a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.

Johnny Lattner (1952, 1953) and Gator great [autotag]Tim Tebow[/autotag] (2007, 2008) are the only players to have won the award twice.
