The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still have yet to hammer out a new long-term contract extension for All-Pro offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, but it appears that progress continues to be made.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported Sunday that the Bucs were “closing in” on a new deal with Wirfs, but Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz said later in the day that both sides remain “miles apart” in negotiations.
Regardless of when this new deal happens, it will indeed happen, and it’s likely to be the richest contract in Bucs history, and make Wirfs the highest-paid NFL offensive tackle ever.
Here are some details to expect, courtesy of Greg Auman of Fox Sports and WDAE’s Tom Krasniqi:
My thoughts all along is $30M per year. Licht explained to me on Friday’s show that he’s prepared to reward him. Wirfs is 25. If I were him, I would do a 4-year deal for around $120M with 85+ million guaranteed. That way, I can cash in again before I turn 30 🧐 #Bucs https://t.co/UkNWOWmk9Y

No matter when this ends up happening, Wirfs will be a wealthy man, and the Bucs will have their franchise left tackle inked for the long term.
