Former Kentucky basketball players got off to a good start at the 2024 Olympics with wins by Canada and Team USA, which feature three former Cats apiece. However, South Sudan also features a starter who played in Lexington in Wenyen Gabriel.

On Sunday, South Sudan opened up their Olympics run with a victory over Puerto Rico 90 – 79. Five members scored in double figures, and Gabriel was not one of them. However, he contributed in multiple ways.

Next up for South Sudan is a rematch with Team USA. They faced each other in a showcase game on July 20th, and game them all they could handle. Team USA managed a one point win 101 – 100, but it was a good one. The rematch will be on July 31st and can be watched on the USA Network and Peacock.
