Zach Lowe’s quip about the Lakers’ interest in Jerami Grant

What did Zach Lowe mean by his comment about Jerami Grant and the Lakers?

Although it may not seem like it, there are indications the Los Angeles Lakers are still trying to pull off a trade this summer. With about two months to go before the start of training camp, there is still time for them to do so and significantly upgrade their roster, although they also don’t have all the time in the world.

They have several rumored trade targets, one of which is Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant. While he averaged 21.0 points a game this past season and is an effective 3-point shooter and defender, people seem to be a bit divided on where he’s the right man for Los Angeles to use its limited trade capital on.

Podcaster Zach Lowe quipped that it may be time to get those Grant Lakers jerseys ready (h/t Lakers Daily).

“Should we start printing the Jerami Grant-Lakers jerseys, by the way?” Lowe posed. “Should we just do it now? I think we — I might order one.”

At face value, it seems Lowe’s comment may have been a sarcastic one. At the same time, trades involving the Lakers have often come out of nowhere, with the news mill being quiet in the days leading up to such trades.

One can never be sure exactly what general manager Rob Pelinka may have up his sleeve — or if he’s simply twiddling his thumbs and doing nothing, as many fans have accused him of doing lately.
