The Washington Huskies have a lot of questions to answer ahead of their first season in the Big Ten along the offensive line, where offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll has been tasked with putting together an entirely new group. If healthy, sophomore Landen Hatchett could be a steadying force at center and after suffering a knee injury in December, he could be nearing a return much sooner than expected.
“[Jedd Fisch] said ‘Early on in fall camp, both Landen Hatchett and [projected starting left guard] Gaard Memmelaar are going to be practicing,'” Lars Hanson said on the Locked On Huskies podcast.
Fisch went on to say that both players are expected to be part of the starting rotation by August 17, when the Huskies are hosting a mock game as part of their annual “Raise the Woof” event. That would give Carroll a huge boost along his offensive line, which currently doesn’t have a clear-cut starting center.
Washington also has redshirt freshman Zach Henning and Portland State transfer D’Angalo Titialii at the position, and Hatchett’s addition brings a lot of comfort to a once-concerning situation.
If the sophomore can secure the starting job as expected, he can free up Titialii and Henning to compete for other positions that don’t have a clear-cut starter, left tackle, and right guard, which adds critical depth to the trenches.
