Omarion Hampton wants to add more versatility to his game

Here’s what Omarion Hampton is looking to improve on in his game for the 2024 season.

What if I told you that North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton could get even better this season?

The running back returns for his third season with North Carolina, fresh off a breakout year in which he established himself as one of the best running backs in the country. But Hampton wants to add another dimension to his game and become more versatile.

And he’s using Christian McCaffery as an example.

“I just want to show that I’m an all-around back, like Christian McCaffrey on Sundays,” Hampton said at ACC Kickoff via the AP. “I want to catch the ball more, have more receiving yards and get better at pass blocking, because I know that is what they want in the National Football League. Doing that, it will expand my game.”

Hampton caught 29 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown last season to go with the over 1,500 rushing yards. He’s been working on his hands this offseason, getting better in that area.

The running back will be UNC’s best returning player on offense and without Drake Maye, they could look to lean on him more. However, they will want to be careful with his usage rates and not overwork him too much.

If Hampton adds that versatility to his game, it should help with his NFL draft stock come next year.
