Welcome to the fifth day of training camp for the Green Bay Packers. Not only are the Packers putting on the pads for the first time on Saturday morning, but an important player will be on the practice field. Quarterback Jordan Love signed his contract extension and is expected to practice. He missed four days of practice, but he’s back for the start of padded practices.

What will Day 5 bring at Ray Nitschke Field?

Here’s everything to know from Saturday, July 27th, the fifth training camp practice of 2024:

Matt LaFleur pre-practice press conference

LaFleur said he expects Love to take a “majority” of the team reps during Saturday’s practice. He said Love throws every day after practice and is ready to go for Saturday.

LaFleur said he Facetimed Love after hearing about the extension. “I don’t think you could wipe that smile off his way, he was pretty happy.”

On getting Love back at practice: “He’s one of the leaders on this team…it will give everyone a boost. Not only the offense, but the defense as well.”

Injury updates

Josh Myers is missing a second straight practice while dealing with a personal matter.

Elgton Jenkins is the first option again at center with Josh Myers out again Saturday.

Quay Walker intercepted a pass from Love during a team period, per Ryan Wood. Love appears to be shaking off some rust early on. (The play appeared to be a botched screen. The pass was overthrown and Walker made the diving interception.)

A lot of rust-shaking-off going on for Love during his first practice.

Love is starting to heat up. He hit four completions during a move the ball drill. Was only a half practice required to shake off the rust?

Pick-six for rookie Javon Bullard on No. 4 quarterback Jacob Eason, per Wed Hodkiewicz.

Love finished off a 70-yard touchdown drive in the two-minute scenario with a 10-yard pass to Romeo Doubs, per Paul Bretl. Love had four completions, including a deep ball to Christian Watson.

Saturday was rookie James Turner’s turn to kick. He went 4-for-6 and is now 12-for-18 to start training camp, per Andy Herman. Turner needs to find some consistency or this will be a two kicker competition soon.

The first padded practice of training camp is done after two hours of work. The offense was declared the day’s “winner,” so the defense did push ups, per Rob Demovsky.
