Big Ten Championship to remain in Indianapolis through 2028

The Big Ten Football championship will remain in Indianapolis through the 2028 season.

As Big Ten media day began on Tuesday, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti spoke to the crowd about the upcoming conference plans. With the addition of UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington, there were questions about how long the Big Ten title game would stay at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Petitti gave that answer quickly. He stated that the game will remain in Indianapolis through the 2028 season. He also had this to say about the event.

“The city and the community have really embraced the event. It’s impactful. You can really feel it when you’re there.”

The game has been held in Indianapolis every year since 2011. Wisconsin was the first Big Ten Championship game-winner over Michigan State in front of 64,152 fans.

The most watched Big Ten title game was the 34-24 Michigan State over Ohio State in 2013. Connor Cook was the MVP of that game with 13.9 viewers tuning in.

The biggest crowd for a Big Ten title game was last season. Just shy of 68,000 fans filled the Lucas Oil Stadium for Michigan’s 26-0 win over Iowa.

Traditionally, the Big Ten title game has been played the first Saturday in December.
