Chris Olave’s 45-yard reception is the Saints Play of the Day

Chris Olave’s 45-yard catch against the Tennessee Titans is our play of the day as we count down the days until the Saints’ Week 1 kickoff:

We are now down to just 45 days until the New Orleans Saints open their season against the division-rival Carolina Panthers, making this 45-yard reception by Chris Olave our Saints Play of the Day. This Week 1 matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans was a slow, brutal crawl of a game, ending with both teams having fewer than 360 total yards of offense and 20 points scored each.

Chris Olave had a really impressive performance, though, with 8 receptions for 112 yards, accruing nearly one third of the team’s yardage on the day. His 45-yard catch came in the third quarter after two short rushes for 4 and 3 yards by Jamaal Williams. Derek Carr hit Olave in stride across the middle and Olave flipped the field, running all the way from the 32-yard line to the opposing 42.

This reception would set up a few short plays to get the Saints further into field goal range, and then a 52-yard field goal by rookie kicker Blake Grupe tied the score. Ultimately the Saints would go on to score a touchdown two drives later on a Rashid Shaheed reception, and would not let up the lead again, starting the 2023 season 1-0.
