NCAA expected to approve expanded scholarship limits in college sports

Scholarship limits are set to expand in college sports, including the addition of 20 scholarships for football and more than 60 across all sports.

The way that scholarships are divided in college sports could be about to see some significant change.

On Tuesday, power conference commissioners met to finalize new roster limits across college sports in the wake of the House settlement, which will pave the way for schools to pave players directly.

Though these scholarship limits will not become official until the House settlement is approved, schools are expected to add dozens of new scholarships across the board, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

The biggest changes will come in football — in which the scholarship limit is expected to expand from 85 to 105 to include current walk-ons — and in baseball, where the full roster will be permitted to be on scholarship compared to the previous 11.7 limit.

Only time will tell how this impacts roster building, but it will surely fundamentally change how teams approach personnel decisions moving forward.
