On Tuesday, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti announced that Washington’s new conference has partnered with Apple to provide iPads for all its teams on the sidelines this season. On the heels of college football allowing helmet communications like in the NFL, Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff is in a unique spot to take advantage of the new rules.
With plenty of NFL experience on staff, between Fisch, coordinators Brennan Carroll and Steve Belichick, and many more, Washington’s coaches already have plenty of experience with the technology, which should help make the transition and learning period easier for the Huskies roster.
The technology could also help the players adjust to Fisch and Belichick’s new scheme faster, as now coaches on the sidelines can give more specific instructions to the players on the field on how to make adjustments between drives.
With a lot of unfamiliarity on both sides after Kalen DeBoer’s departure, the technology on the sideline will not only help the coaches communicate exactly what they’re looking for clearly, but it also gives the players a visual aid to help them pick up and execute scheme faster.
