Big Ten Network has hired new staff to account for USC’s arrival

Big Ten Network had to cover just 11 schools when it first launched. Now? 18 schools.

The USC Trojans are about to enter the Big Ten and become a regular part of daily and weekly content on Big Ten Network. John Canzano, at his Substack (subscription required), talked to Francois McGillicuddy, the president of Big Ten Network about the new media landscape in the conference.

One notable item: Big Ten Network has watched the Big Ten Conference nearly double in size since the network’s existence began. This has necessarily involved hiring added staff.

The Pac-12 Network had incredibly talented people both on-air and behind-the-scenes, and we have been fortunate to add some of those folks. It gets back to our goal of immediately representing all four schools and their fan bases.

As it relates to the Big Ten, no one should know those schools better than the Big Ten Network. The conference is now at 18 schools, versus 11 when the network launched, and admittedly there is a lot more knowledge required. Adding staff with an immediate and expert sense of programs, traditions, and rivalries is a must for us.

Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers joined the Big Ten after BTN had launched, so the league is a far larger entity compared to when Big Ten Network got off the ground. Translated: This isn’t the first time BTN has had to adjust to Big Ten expansion.
