[autotag]Ryan Blaney[/autotag] had a chance of winning the 2024 Brickyard 400, but Brad Keselowski running out of fuel spoiled his day. Blaney lined up outside on the front row and became the control car after Keselowski coasted down pit road. However, Kyle Larson emerged as the leader out of Turn 1 after moving to the front row. NASCAR deemed that Larson did not jump the restart.
Even though NASCAR said Larson didn’t jump the restart, meaning Blaney was the control vehicle, the driver of the No. 12 car was livid on the radio. Blaney didn’t shy away from his thoughts about NASCAR and Larson.
“There’s no way they should’ve let that go green,” Blaney said. “That’s ridiculous. They just gave it to [Kyle Larson]. It’s [expletive] over, I’m on the top. I ain’t gonna win from the top. Gave it to [expletive] golden boy. Son of a [expletive].”
Blaney saying Larson is NASCAR’s “golden boy” circulated quickly through social media on Sunday evening. The Team Penske driver was rightfully upset about the tough luck, but everything was within NASCAR’s rulebook. It was terrible luck that Keselowski ran out of gas when he did at Indianapolis, and Blaney will leave with several “What If” moments.
