The race for five-star shooting guard Jasper Johnson could be coming to an end very soon. And the North Carolina Tar Heels will finally know their fate.
The shooting guard has been on North Carolina’s radar for a long time as they have made him a priority for the 2025 class. Without a commitment yet in the class, Hubert Davis and his staff would love to add Johnson as a centerpiece.
Following another open period, Johnson discussed the latest on his recruitment and one recruiting analyst hinted that a decision could be coming sooner than later. Brendan Marks of The Athletic posted that Johnson told him and reporters that he could commit within the next month:
Top-15 overall recruit Jasper Johnson says he could commit — expected to be between UNC, Kentucky, and Alabama — in the next month. Tar Heels are selling him on being their lead guard in the 2025 class… but Johnson grew up 10 miles from UK and likes Alabama’s guard production. pic.twitter.com/GTQ8hktMoZ

Marks notes that UNC, Alabama, and Kentucky are heavily involved in the race with the three being the presumed leaders.
For North Carolina, they appear to be battling the Crimson Tide to land the prized recruit. But no hints have been out there as to who the true leader is.
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound shooting guard out of Link Academy is ranked No. 12 nationally, the No. 2 shooting guard, and No. 1 player in the state of Missouri per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
Johnson has been on UNC’s campus a few times already so he is very familiar with the program and Hubert Davis. But has it been enough for the Tar Heels to come away the winner in this recruitment? Stay tuned.
