Anthony Davis doesn’t mince words on his lofty goal for 2024-25 season

Anthony Davis made it clear that the goal for the Lakers is still to shoot for the moon.

The Los Angeles Lakers may have a good or even a very good roster right now, but it in no way seems to be a championship-caliber one. They have a few roster deficiencies, and none of them have been addressed, as they have brought in literally no outside players from other teams this offseason.

While new head coach JJ Redick has said the Lakers aren’t far off from being a title contender, LeBron James didn’t mention winning when he talked about his expectations for the coming season.

On the other hand, fellow superstar Anthony Davis made it clear: the goal is to win the NBA’s grand prize.

Via The Athletic:

“The goal at the end of the day is still to win championships,” Davis said. “You can’t skip steps. The first step is we’re going to hold guys accountable. We’re going to show up to work and if something goes wrong, we’re gonna hold guys accountable, and then from there, we’ll figure it out.”

For now, James and Davis are focused on bringing the United States a gold medal in men’s basketball during the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris. As far as the Lakers are concerned, an NBA championship may seem like an unrealistic goal, but there is always a chance they end up making a trade that gets them closer to that goal.
