Will the Celtics sign Sam Hauser to a contract extension?

Sam Hauser is eligible to sign a contract extension with the Boston Celtics.

The Boston Celtics have picked up Sam Hauser’s $2.1 million team option on Sam Hauser. The two teams are now eligible to discuss a contract extension to keep him with the franchise beyond the upcoming season. Hauser is a success story of the Brad Stevens era, having joined as an undrafted free agent before working his way into the rotation and ultimately helping the team win a championship in 2024.

However, the Celtics must be cognizant of the tax implications a potential extension for Hauser would bring. Due to their position as a second-apron team, and the fact they are on course to be a repeat tax offender, Hauser’s contract could run into the tens of millions in penalities.

During a recent episode of “Still Poddable,” Jay King, Sam Packard and Brian Robb discuss the likelihood of the veteran sharpshooter re-signing with Boston and sticking around as a core part of their rotation for years to come.
