NBA Finals MVP and Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jaylen Brown made some news earlier this week, commenting on former USC guard Bronny James’ NBA summer league struggles.
At one point during the game, TV cameras caught Brown as he turned to his girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick, a former WNBA player, and gave an assessment of the younger James’ play. While there is no audio available of the conversation, Brown appears to say, “I don’t think Bronny is a pro.”
Gondrezick appears to respond, in part, “I think he’ll be on the G League team, for sure.”
The CEO of Klutch Sports and childhood friend of LeBron James, Rich Paul, had this to say about Brown’s comments on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show:
“At least he is someone who is actually in the league,” Paul added. “There’s a lot of ‘experts’ with no expertise. He’s actually an expert with expertise. So, if he has that opinion, he can have that opinion, but I know Jaylen. I know he doesn’t mean that with any malice. He was just having a conversation.”
Paul, who represents James and Brown said comments like that could end up being motivation for Bronny.
James will continue to develop but has had a rough summer for the Lakers. He has largely struggled to make 3-point shots and develop consistent offense. He has, however, scored in double figures in each of his last two games, showing improvement before the end of this summer league season.
