The 2024 WNBA 3-Point Contest takes place Friday at  Footprint Center in Phoenix along with the WNBA Skills Challenge. Start time is set for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines for the WNBA 3-Point Contest odds and WNB Skills Challenge odds, and make our expert WNBA picks and predictions.

In the 3-Point Challenge, unfortunately, New York Liberty G Sabrina Ionescu and Indiana Fever G Caitlin Clark are NOT in the field, much to the dismay of fans, but it features some really good outside shooters.

The 5 competitors are Washington Mystics C Stefanie Dolson, Atlanta Dream G Allisha Gray, Liberty C Jonquel Jones, Minnesota Lynx G Kayla McBride and new Connecticut Sun G Marina Mabrey, who was acquired from the Chicago Sky Thursday in a trade.

For the Skills Challenge, the WNBA goes back to the old obstacle course format which focuses on dribbling, passing and shooting on a course as quickly and accurately as possible.

Phoenix Mercury stars G Sophie Cunningham and C Brittney Griner will take part in the competition, with a likely boost from the hometown crowd. The other 3 participants are Indiana G Erica Wheeler, Atlanta’s Gray and Connecticut’s Mabrey.

2024 WNBA 3-Point Contest — Expert pick

Since seeing the entry list, I’ve really liked the odds for Washington’s STEFANIE DOLSON (+750). I’m not worried about her being the biggest long shot here. The value here is spectacular.

Dolson ranks 2nd in the league in 3-point percentage at 48.5% (49 of 101), easily the best in this field. McBride, the chalk (+145), ranks 6th in the W, 2nd best out of this group, at 42.7% (76 of 178). The other 3 players, Gray (36.0%: 41 of 114), Mabrey (34.8%: 56 of 161) and Jones (39.6%: 40 of 101) each check in below the 40% success rate on 3’s.

Dolson might not be the household name of some of the more publicized players, but she is a dead-eye from downtown. I’m very surprised she is the long shot.

2024 WNBA Skills Challenge odds

  • Allisha Gray: +250 (bet $100 to win $250)
  • Sophie Cunningham: +280
  • Erica Wheeler: +320
  • Marina Mabrey: +340
  • Brittney Griner: +650

2024 WNBA Skills Challenge — Expert pick

In the Skills Competition, Mabrey could be a little distracted, as she was just traded from Chicago to Connecticut.

It’s a rather wide-open competition, with Wheeler perhaps the best ball handler of the 5-player group. However, while she is magic dribbling the ball, and a solid passer, she is hitting just 23.5% from 3-point land.

Back one of the hometown players to hoist the trophy. We’re not into conspiracy theories or calling a competition rigged, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM (+280) winning in front of the Phoenix crowd. She might be one of the better shooters in this field.
